PFH volunteers began visiting patients in three facilities in Napa county in 1999: Queen of the Valley Medical Center, St. Helena Hospital, and the Yountville Veterans Home. Today we are welcomed into more than 60 sites and work with a variety of clients in Napa, Solano, Sonoma and Marin Counties. Yet there are never enough volunteers to satisfy the requests we receive.

We have grouped our affiliated sites by the patient/client population they serve. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please look through the list to find a site that provides health care or educational services to the particular group you are interested in visiting.

Hospital Populations

Please note that each hospital has different regulations regarding where PFH volunteers may go. Generally, hospitals allow our CAT teams to go to most units, including cancer treatment, cardiac, emergency, intensive care, post-surgical, and rehabilitation. In addition, PFH canines can be especially helpful in hospital waiting rooms because of their comforting presence and as a momentary distraction from worry.
